Public Health Amendment 2018

On Friday 8th June 2018, Members of the Legislative Assembly voted in favour of the Public Health Amendment (Safe Access to Reproductive Health Clinics) Bill introduced by Nationals MP Leslie Williams…

The bill was passed 62 votes to 18. This bill has criminalised the efforts of generous people across the state who offer another option to women outside abortion clinics who feel that they have no choice. The state has taken away the opportunity for choice for vulnerable women to keep their unborn children.

It is now illegal for a mother to try talk her daughter out of an abortion while sitting in the car outside a clinic. Even something as small as wearing a pro-life t-shirt within these zones can be considered breaking the law.

12 Months

This bill is a huge restriction on our freedom of speech and expression. For simply saying anything pro-life within these “exclusion zones”, offenders could face penalties as severe as 12 months in prison. For such a small offence, it is a harsh punishment.
