In a unique case which could set a new legal precedent, a NSW sperm donor is fighting to remain listed as the father on his child’s birth certificate – as the mother’s lesbian ex-partner wants his name removed.
The father, Neil Richards, says he’s been a constant part of his daughter’s life, seeing her every two weeks of her life after paying $5,000 for her mother’s fertility treatments ten years ago.
Richards says he’s spent over $50,000 in legal fees. ‘’It’s a very depressing situation,” he told the paper. “The birth certificate is more than a bit of paper. It tells people who you are. No one seems to care about fathers these days
